BETWEEN HERITAGE, TRADITIONS AND NATURE

Alpilles
Make the most of your stay at our hotel in Fontvieille to explore the Alpilles, a land rich in historical and architectural heritage and traditions.

As you pass through the villages, the Alpilles reveals its treasures. Let yourself be charmed by these unique landscapes, which reveal all the beauty of Provence.

Fontvieille, nestling in the heart of the white stone quarries found on the village's houses, is a must-see in the Alpilles region. It was here that Alphonse Daudet drew the inspiration to write Lettres de mon Moulin, a classic of French literature. You can also discover the Moulin Saint-Pierre, or Moulin Ribert, nicknamed "Alphonse Daudet's mill": the building is open to visitors and has a museum.
For a cultural stroll, take an hour's walk through Fontvieille to discover the village's main windmills and admire the magnificent views of the Alpilles.

Finally, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence is the capital of the Alpilles region. This charming little town was founded in 500 BC under the name of Glanum. Stock up on souvenirs in the town's art galleries and boutiques, and sample the local gastronomy in the restaurants and cafés with their shady terraces.

During your stay, don't miss a stroll through the markets of Provence. As you browse the stalls, discover local produce such as cheeses, honeys and, of course, the unmissable olive oil, Provence's 'green gold'.

culture in the alpilles

a journey through time around our hotel

Close to our hotel in Fontvieille, the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence has preserved traces of its past, with ancient remains, medieval ramparts and Renaissance town houses. To the south of the town, visit the ancient site of Glanum, where you can admire the remains of thermal baths, a temple, a triumphal arch and an impressive mausoleum.
The town has also attracted many artists, including Vincent Van Gogh, who was inspired to paint no fewer than 150 canvases by the light and landscapes of the region. A walking tour from the Saint-Pierre-de-Mausole monastery to the Estrine museum allows you to admire 21 reproductions of his works. The Alpilles has also been home to composer Charles Gounod, writer Alphonse Daudet and Provençal poet Frédéric Mistral, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904. The poet's former home now houses the Musée Frédéric-Mistral, a place for his work, literary meetings and children's workshops, as well as a photo and video library.
